WAKEENEY -- Claire (Marshall) Yoxall, 106, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at the Long Term Care Unit at Trego-Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney.
She was born May 5, 1895, to Grant G. and Julia (Cortright) Marshall in WaKeeney.
She married Richard Yoxall Aug. 14, 1923, in WaKeeney. He died in May 1929.
She attended school in WaKeeney and was a graduate of Trego Community High School in WaKeeney. She also attended and graduated from Fort Hays Normal, now Fort Hays State University, with a life certificate in teaching.
She taught school for eight years before her marriage.
She and her husband made their home in WaKeeney, and she was a life-time resident of the town.
She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in WaKeeney while it existed and later attended St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Hays until her health prohibited her from driving to Hays. She then attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in WaKeeney.
In 1990, she was given a certificate and pin for 75 years of membership in the Margaret Chapter of the Order of Easter Star in WaKeeney. She was also a member of the Randall Reid VFW Post No. 3449 Auxiliary and was in many social and business clubs in WaKeeney.
She traveled to Europe and to the Mideast and Far East with the Kansas and General Federated Women's Clubs groups.
Her hobbies included photography, and she took many pictures of the places she visited. She also enjoyed painting.
Survivors include one son, James Richard Yoxall and wife, Constance, Liberal; one grandson, Richard R. Yoxall and wife, Andrea, Liberal; one granddaughter, Bonnie L. Frederick and husband, Terry, Lenexa; two great-grandchildren, Ashlee Yoxall and Logan Yoxall, both of Liberal; one nephew; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter G. Marshall; and one sister, Cora Walsh.

Private family graveside services have been conducted.
