    Notes
    • An exract from an unknown book records details of some Coppenhall Paupers, 1800-1836. Mentioned are Willliam YOXALL, his wife Mary and some details of the help they were given. Also mentioned is another William YOXALL, who was sentenced to transprtation to Australia for burglary, after his original sentence of death was commuted to 7 years. The book is however incorrent with regard to what happened to William the convict after he served his sentence fo 7 years. Whilst the nook records he returned to England in 1828, he settled in Australai, married a female convict Julia CASEY and had a family that a large number of descendants today. Both William YOXALL are related to Abraham YOXALL & Mary SHENTON. [10]

  • Notes
    • For the past 18 months or so I have extracted hundreds of original Parish Registers for YOXALL from Find My Past in order to prove many links that were made from transcripts. What I am suggesting for the parent of William YOXALL, spouse of Mary KIRK is:

      First name(s): William
      Last name: Yoxall
      Gender: Male
      Birth year: 1782
      Baptism year: 1782
      Baptism date: 17 Mar 1782
      Place: Church Minshull
      County: Cheshire
      Country: England
      Mother's first name(s): Alice
      Mother's last name: Yoxall

The baptism register for William shows his mother was Alice YOXALL, living in Minshull Vernon, Cheshire, England at the time of William's baptism with William, it would appear, illegitimate as he was described only as the son of Alice YOXALL. His mother Alice YOXALL has been traced as the daughter of Abraham YOXALL & Mary SHENTON. Alice married John MERRILL in 1785 and went on to have 9 other children if my records are correct. At this time I haven't found a marriage or a burial for any other William b.c.1784 in Cheshire and William, son of Alice YOXALL, daur of Abrham YOXALL & Mary SHENTON. is the best match for William YOXALL, spouse of Mary KIRK. There is an Ancestry tree with the link of William YOXALL, spouse of Mary KIRK, to Alice YOXALL, but this is unsourced and no parents are recorded for Alice. I have sought the views of other descendants where I am not 100% sure of links, not that you can be as you push further back in time. Elimination of everyone else as a link is the best you can hope for in terms of proof, which is the justification for making this link. [4]
    • There is another possible child for William & Mary, a son Richard YOXALL, buried 31 May 1816, living at Cross Green, Church Coppenhall, at the time of his burial. No Baptism has been found for him, perhaps his death occurred before he could be baptised. Living in Church Coppenhall at that time, William & Mary are the most likely parents. [11]
